who are we?
Christians with a heart to reach out to our community and provide a safe, stable environment for students of all backgrounds regardless of socioeconomic status or race.
Classes
We are a small school with no designs to ever grow past 120 students. We cap each classroom at 15 students. For grades 1-8, we offer multi-grade classrooms. Each multi-grade classroom contains 2 grades (grades 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8). Having such small classes allows individual attention to be given to each student by their teacher. Having multi-grade classes allows each student to “slide” to their own group of peers academically for differentiated instruction.
Tuition
We are primarily funded through Indiana School Choice Vouchers. Other schools accept vouchers, but we intentionally price our tuition & fees (link) to come below the voucher maximum award amount. What do we teach?
Jesus, love, patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control. These aren’t the normal subjects listed on a chalkboard but the unspoken sermons displayed by our teachers and staff.
For the traditional subjects we use:
Reading & Writing: Bookworms (K-4), The Writer’s Workshop (5-8), and iLearn (K-8)
Grammar: Rod & Staff (2-6)
Math: iReady
Science: Purposeful Design
Social Studies: Story of the World (1-8)
Bible: Developed in-house
All students have Bible class 4 days a week and Chapel once a week. Our theme this year is Colossians 3:12-17. Each week volunteer ministers from local Churches of Christ come and provide a chapel message to the school based on a specific attribute of these verses. The other 4 days of Bible class further elaborate on and dive into these attributes at a maturity level appropriate for each grade.
Bible & Chapel
We have a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks to students for 1-8 and several devices for Kindergarten use. We don’t prioritize teaching on computers, but utilize them as extremely useful tools. For example, our iReady math program is self evaluating for each student and places them in the exact lesson their skills show need the most practice.
We’re also able to utilize this technology for the upper grades during Covid outbreaks and inclement weather days. Teachers post assignments into Google Classroom and students are able to submit assignments directly, paper free.
Tech
Assessments
Three assessments take place each year for math and reading - at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. We’re not trying to force everyone to meet the highest standards, but rather help each student make solid progress. These assessments take place on the computer using iReady, which is a national standard exam for millions of students each year.
Extra
Curriculars
We are able to provide Art, Music, Gym, and Library for each student once a week. At this time we do not have any after school activities or other athletics. Larger schools will be able to provide the opportunity for these things, but the trade-off MCA can provide is the individual attention to each student. We hope to grow our opportunities for extra-curricular activities and sports as God provides us with volunteers and resources to do so.
